Onderzoekers van MIT hebben uitgevogeld dat een cv op een zwaar klembord beter wordt beoordeeld dan hetzelfde cv op een lichter klembord.
Nu kun je het gewicht van het klembord van de selecteur niet direct beïnvloeden, maar wel het gewicht van je papier. Ik zou zeggen, op naar de kantoorboekwinkel en koop extra zwaar papier voor je sollicitatiebrief en cv. Wel even checken dat je printer het aankan.

The experience of weight, exemplified by heaviness and lightness, is metaphorically associated with concepts of seriousness and importance. This is exemplified in the idioms “thinking about weighty matters” and “gravity of the situation.” In our first study, testing influences of weight on impression formation, we had 54 passersby evaluate a job candidate by reviewing resumes on either light (340.2 g) or heavy (2041.2 g) clipboards.
Participants using heavy clipboards rated the candidate as better overall and specifically as displaying more serious interest in the position. However, the candidate was not rated as more likely to “get along” with co-workers, suggesting that the weight cue affected impressions of the candidate’s performance and seriousness, consistent with a “heavy” metaphor, but not the metaphorically irrelevant trait of social likeability.

Hier past wel een Diederik Stapel-waarschuwing bij: het onderzoek bestaat uit één enkele bevraging van enkele tientallen mensen. Je kunt je afvragen hoe betrouwbaar de algemene conclusie is.
Dat gezegd hebbende, kan ik me er gevoelsmatig wel iets bij voorstellen. Contracten, diploma's en andere officiële documenten worden niet voor niets op zwaarder papier geprint. Waarom zou je dat met je sollicitatiebrief en cv ook niet doen?
