Standaard AkzoNobel is hiring a Global Digital Technology Manager for ISC in Amsterdam

About the company
AkzoNobel is a leading global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals, with leading market positions and brands in countries around the world. We operate in a number of important market segments ranging from buildings and infrastructure to transport, industrial and consumer goods. We’re also the sector leader in sustainability and are number one in the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index. In practical terms, that means our sustainable solutions are in your lives, and those of your friends and family, every day. We’re the people that make it possible for you to do what you need to do.

Responsibility
An opportunity to deploy high level digital, project management and influencing skills across a strategic global program

AkzoNobel creates everyday essentials to make people’s lives more liveable and inspiring. We are a leading global producer of paints, coatings and specialty chemicals, supplying essential ingredients, essential protection and essential color to industries and consumers worldwide.

We are currently establishing and deploying a Digital Strategy for the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) that underpins all manufacturing facilities across our Specialty Chemicals business area (BA) and its component business units (BU). This includes new-build systems and system upgrades/migrations. Within this context, your mission in this role is to drive this process by ensuring that each BU has a clear digital strategy in place. Your overall objective is to establish a plan for hardware, software and functional standardization in order to deliver business benefits.

Thus you establish a governance model to ensure that the global digital strategy is followed across all manufacturing facilities within the BA. You also define the development model for future investments in digital technology to ensure alignment with the following KPIs: productivity, material/energy efficiency and capacity generation. At all times you run projects according AkzoNobel’s ICP stage-gate process.

Is this a challenge that matches your profile as someone who has run major cross-functional, internal digital innovation projects, working with external parties? Do you have a track record of delivering at a regional or global level, along with an understanding of how to activate and drive adoption of new technology in local manufacturing sites? Can you improve processes and expand knowledge of digital while gaining respect and inspiring others so that they run with ideas and proposed changes? Above all, can you make a real difference within our dynamic, multinational and multicultural business environment?

If you offer all this and more we invite you to apply for the role of

Global Digital Technology Manager

The role and its responsibilities

This high profile and influential role is based at the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, but you will travel globally for approximately 50% of your time.

Your core task is to establish the BA Digital Strategy Network, developing the required capabilities and expanding expertise across the organization. As such, you are a key part of the BA ISC deployment organization, involved with complex projects and multiple functions within AkzoNobel and with various external partners.

Thus you work closely with the ISC management team and the Advanced Manufacturing and Projects & Engineering (AMPE) group, which includes Digital Technology (global MES template). You also work closely with IM, which includes ISC business process technologies such as SAP and corresponding data capturing solutions.

In doing so you assist manufacturing sites in developing a digital automation strategy and/or creating business cases to justify investments in Digital Technologies, based on standardized BA Digital platforms.

Further, you maintain a database of functional design standards and best practices for Digital Technologies. You also guide implementations on manufacturing process control, asset condition monitoring systems, and digital supply chain best practices.

In addition you execute ‘Proof of Value’ (PoV’s) projects and align with BU and local stakeholders to prepare go/no-go decision for BA wide standardization.

At all times you source and communicate best practices, working with the Global MES Systems manager to ensure MES standardization, and with Maintenance and Operations Core Teams to ensure digital technology standardization is built on ALPS process standards.
All of this demands the ability to interface at a senior and strategic level as you define and deliver agreed plans, plan priorities and resources, and agree budget estimates. It also demands that you are able to deliver change across different countries and cultures while quickly getting to know many AkzoNobel sites and processes.

Above all, the role demands that you are able to envision the end goal and guide disciplines along a roadmap towards positive results while quantifying cost/ business benefits over time.

Job requirements / Candidate profile

To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:
• Technical MSc degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline, and at least eight years of experience in the design, deployment and operational support of digital technologies in a chemical process or similar industry;

• Excellent communication, presentation and multi-level situational leadership skills including fluent written and spoken English.
