A wide-ranging role for a change driver who can deliver excellence and continuous improvement for key CapEx projects
Projects & Engineering (P&E) is AkzoNobel’s Center of Excellence in the field of project management and engineering. We create business value for AkzoNobel and selected external customers by delivering investment projects and optimizing current operations. We offer a stimulating and varied working environment with approximately 170 highly skilled technical professionals. Our engineers are located in offices in Brazil, China, India, the Netherlands, Sweden and the USA.
Within P&E, the Engineering Excellence Center (EE) drives functional excellence for CapEx Projects across the company. Thus it leads the initiation and execution of projects and continuously improves standard work processes for CapEx project management and engineering in alignment with other functional areas. In doing so it enables the company to deliver projects on time and on budget in order to meet our business objectives.
Within this context, your mission in this role is to help us optimize all these activities and objectives, and to deliver continuous improvement, training and coaching within the Engineering function. This requires you to lead multidisciplinary and cross-regional projects or small programs involving multiple parties with high potential impact on engineering efficiency and cost savings.

Functional Expert Engineering Excellence
The role and its responsibilities
This position is based at Arnhem, the Netherlands, from where you improve work processes, methodologies and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness for Project Management and Engineering.
Thus you define uniform engineering standards and tools, and harmonize work processes and methodologies. Further, you develop new services, scope, content, competencies and cultures in order to deliver business value to customers.
All of this requires you to link to third party expertise providers as you incorporate new thinking and develop and propose state-of-the-art policies, processes, methodologies and systems, thereby ensuring the use of best practices. concepts and value improving methods.
At all times you monitor and report on KPIs. You also ensure that systems and training are in place, and you provide input on high-level functional solutions to IM supply teams.
As such, this is a role for energetic candidates with the ability and vision to draw conclusions based on complex analysis, then propose and implement measures to optimize tactical/strategic approaches. It is also essential that you can manage interaction with a large variety of (groups of) stakeholders at a strategic level, manage opposing interests, and develop your own network.

- Master or doctorate level qualification in a (relevant) engineering discipline;
- Broad and specialized knowledge of CapEx project management and Engineering,
- Engineering management systems and programs, as well as external benchmarks;
- Multi-year experience across multiple business units, disciplines, and countries;
- Strong tactical/strategic and conceptual skills and the ability to follow through;
- Able to work inclusively across the Engineering community;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including fluent written and spoken English.
