Senior Process Safety Specialist - Mechanical Integrity Systems Focus
The role and its responsibilities
This role falls within the corporate HSE department of AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals in Arnhem, with flexibility to Amsterdam or another AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals location within the Netherlands. In supporting the business with all aspects of MI Management, your objective is to benchmark against industry leaders.
Thus you develop, deploy and establish MI management systems that support SC’s requirements, guiding line management to develop and ensure implementation of outstanding MI Management procedures. This requires you to develop the MI Management Manual and implementation, along with supporting tools and templates. You also coordinate training of relevant personnel.
In addition, you support sites with Process Safety Management (PSM) specific input to ensure that maintenance inspections, plans and procedure are consistent throughout SC.
HSE is absolutely central to the role and you act as an inspiring HSE coach and role model by leading and conducting on-site training in Hazop studies (PHA, LOPA etc). In doing so you ensure all processes are covered, leveraging and extending HSE knowledge and working with the PSM and Maintenance CI team to deliver the SIP.
Further, you ensure processes for testing or testing capability are in place and audited. You also lead and participate in PSM incident investigation and ensure all incidents with a MI root cause are classified correctly and investigated thoroughly.
On an ongoing basis you contribute to the Process Safety and MI strategy, working closely with a number of expert internal teams and entities to align strategy at the next level up. You also establish and maintain a solid best practice platform via networking across SC.
Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess all the following attributes:
• Bachelor, Master’s or Doctorate level qualification in HSE, Engineering or a related discipline, or the equivalent in terms of specialized PSM functional and management systems knowledge and experience;
• Ten years of experience in the PSM area, ideally with some knowledge of MI, across multiple units, disciplines, locations and/or other companies in a manufacturing environment;
• Trained in Hazard Studies and able to work inclusively with the HSE community to ensure the business experiences ‘one voice’ so that collective objectives are met;
• Able to drive the continuous improvement of processes, policies and standards;
• In a position to travel 30-40% of the time (domestic and international);
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills including fluent written and spoken English, with Dutch and/or German an advantage.
