Global Marketing Director – Consumer Communications & Activation
The role and its responsibilities:
This role has global responsibility and is based at the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. You will be part of the Global Consumer Marketing Team that provides overall brand and portfolio leadership as well as defining the global marketing agenda, reporting directly into the Global Head of Marketing (Consumer).
You lead the development and implementation of communication platforms and activation programs that bring the brand idea into life across all relevant touch points. In doing so you ensure the implementation of the brand positioning across all markets, track the development of brand equity and apply corrective measures where necessary.
Further, you will be responsible to lead our global content strategy by uncovering key consumer insights and identifying critical needs across regions and segments, and drive deployment across all key regions/countries. Within this, further development and leadership of our Let’s Color communication and CSR platform will be a key element, while managing a number of external partnerships
In terms of media, you will define relevant media models, owning and leading all media agency relationships in order to develop an effective global communication strategy. You will also create a competitive media overview and understanding.
Brand Activation is central to the role, requiring you to identify repeatable success models and activation bundles while respecting acknowledged regional variations. With this, you provide guidance and business leadership to (local) activation development and deployment, working closely with the Global Activation Manager.
All of this requires you to interact with a wide range of internal and external partners including advertising, research and media agencies, regional Marketing Directors and other Marketing heads, as well as trend watchers and opinion formers.

To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:
- University education with a degree or equivalent qualification;
- At least 10 years of experience (ideally within Blue-Chip FMCG companies) with media management and having led successful advertising development yourself, strong experience with concept development, product development, pricing capabilities and insight;
- Action-driven, strong in follow-through, service-minded and able to engage and mobilize (both upwards and downwards);
- International experience is essential and you must be willing to travel for one to two days per week;
- Multi-country experience and fluent in English.
